About our school

Midwest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was founded in the fall of 2022 by Instructor Austin Staley. We are located in Harlan, Iowa at 915 7th street on the square.

Our mission is to make Jiu-Jitsu accessible to everyone and to help our students achieve their full potential. We believe that Jiu-Jitsu can help save lives, and we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where students can learn and grow.

Austin Staley

Austin, a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, started his teaching career with instructing children’s classes in 2019. He actively participates in local tournaments at least once a year and consistently dedicates time to enhancing the skills of his Jiu Jitsu students. His commitment extends beyond the mats, as he willingly supports students in achieving their goals and personal growth. Austin is devoted to the art of Jiu Jitsu, teaching self-defense, and cultivating a positive training environment.

Fabio Santos

Of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

Fabio Santos is a 7th degree (7º grau) Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coral belt and a black belt under Rickson Gracie, who was also a pupil of the legendary Rolls Gracie for many years. He is one of the most respected and accomplished figures in the sport of BJJ, and his academy in San Diego, California is one of the most prestigious in the world.

Fabio Santos began training in BJJ as a child, and quickly rose through the ranks. He was one of the first BJJ black belts to come to the United States, and he helped to popularize the sport in this country. He is a veteran competitor with several important titles under his belt, and he continued to compete actively into his 50s.

Fabio Santos is known for his technical mastery of BJJ, as well as his his calm and collected demeanor on the mat. He is a gifted teacher, and his students have gone on to achieve great success in the sport. He is also a passionate advocate for BJJ, and he has worked tirelessly to promote the sport and its values.

Fabio Santos is a true pioneer and legend of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He is a role model for practitioners of all ages and levels, and we are proud to have him as our jiu jitsu professor.
